On the edge of a wild pasture
A simple woodcutter’s cottage theme
Approximately one year after the first project the owners purchased a second property and after we concluded the transaction we were again appointed to conduct the refurbishment and fit-out inclusive of all interior design and furnishings on Woodlands Cottage.
Woodlands Cottage is set in a wonderful location on the edge of a wild pasture surrounded by a beautiful forest. The access road was widened and upgraded and a terrace established outside the house to allow for ease of access. The entire house was clad in a thermal faced and new traditional windows with double glazing were fitted. All external wood work and soffit boarding was replaced including a new larch balustrade to the balcony.
Internal works included new French style kitchen, new shower room and complete re-plaster and decoration. Electrical and plumbing upgrades were provided and new feature wood-burner stove installed. We were allowed ‘carte blanche’ on all finishing and design changes and kept to a simple woodcutter’s cottage theme. We commissioned bespoke handmade items such as solid larch washstand with wrought-iron fittings, hand-made ceramic tiles for the showers area and a ‘piece de résistance’ rustic solid log bed for the main room. This unique hand-carved piece has become a firm favorite with all who stay over at this special cottage.
